Is there lower cost registration fees for goalies this year?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the question David. This has not been decided as of yet David. This was an initiative that was done after carefully looking at the finances of the association. The board is always looking at ways to keep the cost of playing hockey down as we know how expensive it can be. Last year we were able to pass on some savings to the parents of goaltenders. This was thanks to Duncan Keith and his generous donation to FFMHA. We used this money for our new goalie program and to pass on some savings to parents of kids in this position. As of today nothing has been decided on whether or not we will be able to continue this program each year. Our ice fees are going up another 3% and if the harmonization of the PST and GST goes through we could be looking at an additional 8% cost. So as of right now goaltenders have to register at the same cost as everyone else. We will continue to provide equipment to those kids who wish to play this position, especially in the younger divisions where the kids are growing and changing their minds about which positions they would like to play.
